Thanksgiving Service
The Methodist Girls' High School, as its name implies is a Christian school. An annual Thanksgiving Service is held at Wesley Methodist Church on the 1st Sunday in January. After the church service, the principal, staff, pupils and alumni march through the streets of the city to the music of the MGHS' band and bands from other schools, whilst onlookers cheer them on.

Speech Day and Prize Giving Ceremony

The school annually holds its Speech Day and Prize Giving on the last Thursday in January. This is an opportunity for pupils and their family, honoured guests and invited speakers to receive an account of the previous academic year from the principal. An honorary speaker and the school’s head girl give speeches. The schools choir, band, and various groups (e.g. the Literature and Drama Club, the French club and Girls Guide Company) make presentations and outstanding pupils receive trophies and prizes for diligence.

Annual Inter-House Athletics

Towards the end of November every year, a two-day inter-house athletics is held at the National Stadium in Freetown. The school has 6 houses/teams, named after outstanding personalities in its history. They are:
